Hippy (full band debut headline show) with Special Guests King of Birds and Brian McLachlan.
HIPPY: “Formed in mid 2019 after Paul and Hugh met via a mutual acquaintance in Glasgow. By October 2019 their first single, ‘Aries Girl’, was released followed up by subsequent singles ‘Feelgood’, ‘Junkyard Babies’ and ‘Volunteer’. Their debut album Behind Every Song Is A Story was released to critical acclaim in October 2020. Hippy released their second album Falling In Love With Being Alive in August 2021 which received both local and national radio and critical acclaim. Several single releases in 2022 including ‘Boho Eskimo’, ‘Collateral’ and ‘Waiting For Love’ also received national radio play for the band. Hippy have also enjoyed a recent return to the live scene bringing their brand of acoustic rock to a wider audience. They have now decided to play songs from both albums with a full band, Having added Johnny Dangerous on bass and Gregor ‘G-Man’ McPhie on drums they are very much looking forward to their upcoming debut full band gig in Room 2 Live.”
KING OF BIRDS: ‘Heaven’s just a one horse town’
The King of Birds story reads like many previously lamented rock ‘n’ roll tales. Scottish brothers, Charlie and Stirling Gorman from Elderslie, played in various bands as kids and dreamed of nailing a record deal that would be their passport out of 9-5 purgatory.
‘The rest is only dreaming’
Almost instantly that dream turned to reality when their fledgling band ‘Murmur’ were signed to Warner Bros (U.S.) imprint, Mesa BlueMoon Recordings and before they knew it they were stateside putting pen to paper, recording their debut album and touring extensively across America
‘How fragile is the flame’
Inevitably, as quickly as it began, it was over. Initial sales didn’t meet expectations, promotional commitments from the label fell through, the band were dropped and the Gormans found themselves back in Elderslie
‘Too many lonely people, in too many lonely lives’
Throughout the intervening years the brothers’ love of roots music remained and in particular the soundscape of Americana which had gripped them so tightly during those early years. Both continued writing, though not together, a clutch of broken relationships and the sudden loss of some close childhood friends catalysing a number of re-evaluations that ultimately informed new output.
‘I believe in you and me’
Late in 2014, Stirling called Charlie and suggested they write some songs together. By the spring of 2017 the duo had stockpiled an arsenal of material and decided to start recording what would become their debut album as King of Birds, ‘Eve of Destruction’.
‘Rise up from the embers’
Self-recorded and produced with a group of long standing friends Alan McEwan and Gerry McDermott, Stuart McInnes and Davie Holland the record was completed in the summer of 2018. Alan and Gerry continue to play with the band to this day. Preceded by the singles ‘I Hope We Don’t Fall In Love’ and ‘Hard Times For A Good Man’, ‘Eve of Destruction’ was released 26th September 2019, on Valuable Recordings, to widespread critical acclaim at a sold out launch show.
‘Eve of Destruction’
“’Eve of Destruction’ is classic, traditional, but also modern and wild – a truly beautiful album” Maverick Magazine “A highly accomplished record that would not feel out of place tucked between Nashville Skyline and After The Goldrush in anyone’s collection” The Herald ‘More from King of Birds to come, it sounds great. It all bodes very well for them’ Ricky Ross: Deacon Blue/BBC Radio Scotland “A masterful piece of work” Plain or Pan ‘Eve of Destruction’ might well be one of my albums of the year’ Billy Sloan: BBC Radio Scotland.
BRIAN McLACHLAN: “Brian’s passion for music began at an early age and continued to grow over the years. By his late teens Brian was playing in bands and has done so ever since. Playing in various bands over the years has taken him all over the UK and Ireland, as well as overseas. From the early days Brian always wrote songs, sometimes with others but mainly independently. This has now lead to Brian’s debut solo album ‘Turning Wheel’s’ released in November 2022. The album takes the listener on a musical journey with melodic well crafted songs; complimented by the musicianship and rich harmonies. ‘ Turning Wheels ‘ stands strongly on its own two feet get on board, the wheels are turning!”
Thank you for your support and see you there!
